Archerfield Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Two Wonderful 18-Hole Layouts

Archerfield Links is blessed to have two stunning 18-hole courses, both of which offer very different challenges. The Dirleton is the true links layout at the venue, while the Fidra offers something rarely seen in this part of the world...

Fidra Course

The Fidra Course, surprisingly, is not linksy – at least half of it isn’t, anyway. It starts with holes whose fairways are lined by avenues of pine trees. The Open Championship might be played a couple of hundred yards away at one of its very finest venues but the start to the Fidra feels more akin to the US Open – more like Pinehurst than Muirfield. The undulations and borrows make the greens ones to be wary of though.

The course is named after the tiny island and lighthouse just off the coastline of mainland Scotland, is a Par 72 that reaches 6,950 yards from the tips. The blues (6,585) and whites (6,200) offer a slightly less difficult challenge for those that don’t fancy the brutality of a course that plays almost 7,000 yards.

Dirleton Course

Unlike the Fidra - which is much more US Open than Open Championship – the Dirleton Links at Archerfield is a true links layout. There are sweeping fairways, deep menacing bunkers and undulating sand dunes bordering each fairway. Further, the numerous sand traps are mostly of the old-fashioned pot bunker type, complete with revetted faces and wooden stairs – always an ominous sign.

The greens are again immaculate and those who enjoy putting on slick, pure surfaces will relish the experience. The Dirleton pushes 7,000 yards from the tips, and plays as a strong par 72 course. The layout also comes home with the backdrop of the stunning 17th Century mansion house on the property.

Luxury Accommodation

As you might expect with a glorious Scottish venue, one that has 36 holes of stunning coastal golf, there is also some wonderful accommodation at Archerfield. It comes in many forms, all of which are dotted around the property.

At the south of the property, next to Archerfield House, sit the Pavilion Suites. These 12 offerings are part of the old coach house and stables, of which dates back to the 18th Century. The Pavilion Suites are all individually decorated, and come in either Double or Twin form.

The Lodges also sit to the southwest of the two golf courses, providing the perfect spot for relaxation and tranquillity. There are nine lodges, all built from timber wood, all of which can sleep at least six. The lodges at Archerfield also come equipped with Sky TV, glorious products and toiletries and even a couple of bottles of complimentary wine.

The three big accommodation offerings lie at the north of the property. The Cottage (sleeps 4), The Boathouse (sleeps 8) and the Marina Villa (sleeps 10), are all great options for those larger groups making the trip to the East Lothian region.

Fletcher’s Cottage Spa & Archerfield House

Fletcher’s Cottage is the spa facility at the Archerfield Resort. The facility plays host to a lavender sauna, steam room, gym and a walled garden to walk around. Residents of the hotel and lodges, along with those just visiting for the day, can enjoy massages and treatments at Fletcher’s Cottage, to relax and unwind.

Archerfield House is the main building on the property, and it is a stunning architectural design. The venue is mainly used for weddings and private functions, providing a perfect place for those special days.
