Bonmont

This a Robert Trent Jones Jnr layout is set among an arid, rocky landscape to the south of the city of Tarragona.

Opened in 1990, it is characterised by intimidating ravines laid over the routing like a lattice. It is interesting verging on quirky and we liked it.

Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul Lawrie have both won at Bonmont, which incorporates nearly 100 bunkers and man-made lakes but also a good width of fairway and some thrilling downhill drives.

The front nine is set over gently undulating terrain populated by clusters of pine before you soak up coastline and mountain views from the higher elevations on the often quite hilly back nine.

A fine addition to a Costa Brava itinerary, you won't be disappointed by adding Bonmont on to the likes of El Prat near Barcelona and Lumine (Hills) in between.
