Bramshaw Golf Club

Bramshaw Golf Club is the oldest established golf club in Hampshire. It consists of two contrasting 18-hole courses that are located in the New Forest National Park. The Forest Course is the oldest course in Hampshire and was created on Brook Common by a retired Royal Navy Lieutenant, Philip De Crespigny. He initially created a 9 hole course in the 1860’s for him to entertain his guests. The course became Bramshaw Golf Club in 1880 and was extended to 18 holes in 1913. The Par 69, 5574 yard Forest Course is built using the natural terrain of the New Forest National Park. It offers an “in-land” links style of golf due to tight lies and fast running fairways. In 1953, Bramshaw Golf Club became a private limited company and the running of the club was taken on by a local family, the Crosthwaite Eyres. The Crosthwaite Eyres also owned the Bell Inn and allowed part of the hotel to be used as the clubhouse for the golf club. In the late 1960s the club decided to extend the facility to 36 holes and the Manor Course, situated behind the Bell Inn, was opened in 1972. In 1983 the clubhouse moved from the hotel to a newly constructed building next to the 18th green. The Manor Course has matured into a fine parkland style course that measures 6400 yds and has a par of 71. While not long by modern standards, many holes are tree lined with mature trees and this combined with relatively small greens makes the course a challenge for all standards of golf. As an accredited Golf Mark High Achiever club, Bramshaw Golf Club is able to offer a high standard of golf tuition to beginners and seasoned golfers alike through PGA accredited Golf Professionals Clive Bonner and Mike Bristow. Visitors and Societies are welcome at the club and they can enjoy the delights of an excellent menu provided by the clubhouse catering team.
