Finca Cortesin | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

As host to the 2023 Solheim Cup, Finca Cortesin has been thrusted onto the world map, and what an amazing golfing resort it is. It is one of the leading Spanish resorts, and sits on the glorious Andalucia coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. The championship golf course, stunning accommodation and Oriental Spa provide guests with an incredible stay at the Andalusian resort.

The golf course played host to 24 of the world’s greatest female golfers in September 2023, with the European team retaining the trophy after a 14-14 draw. It was the first time that the tournament ever finished as a draw, and home favourite Carlota Ciganda was a key component for Team Europe. With the best of the best playing on the golf course, it was showcased to the world.

Cabell Robinson, the world-renowned golf course architect, was the brainchild of the championship course at Finca Cortesin. The 18-hole lay-out measures at more than 7,000 yards, and offers incredible views of the Estepona Mountains. There is also a Jack Nicklaus Academy at Finca Cortesin, with stunning practice facilities and the opportunity for tuition from a range of PGA-qualified professionals.

Finca Cortesin is also the home to an Oriental-inspired spa, with the intention of providing guests with a relaxing and tranquil visit. The Spa boasts individual treatment rooms for both facial and body treatments, as well as a fitness centre and an indoor heated salt-water swimming pool.

The accommodation at Finca Cortesin is second to none. There are 67 suites in the 5-star hotel, ranging from Junior Suites right the way up to the exquisite Cortesin Suite. There are also a range of private residences - villas and houses - that can sleep up to ten people in the utmost luxury.

Finca Cortesin Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Solheim Cup Host

Finca Cortesin was already well known before being awarded the Solheim Cup. However, the sport’s premiere women’s match play event brought the Spanish resort to the forefront of the golfing world.

The golf course, which begins with a risk-reward par-4, provided some incredible moments throughout the course of the weekend, as home favourite Carlota Ciganda was able to help Team Europe retain the trophy, as the score finished level at 14-14 for the first time in the tournament’s history.

The course is one of Europe’s longest layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards from the tips, and it is also one of Cabell Robinson’s finest designs. With views of the Estepona Mountains as you stroll up and down over the hills, each of the 18 holes provides a different challenge, and it is a course that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Nicklaus Academy

As one of several venues around the world, the Nicklaus Academy has a home at Finca Cortesin. Led by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, revolutionary methods are put into practice to help golfers of all levels.

Private lessons at the academy can give you one-to-one tuition and instruction while using all of the aforementioned technology. The Nicklaus Academy also provides on-course lessons to help with your course management, and to teach what shots to play from different positions. Each of the Junior Suites, along with the rest of the suites at the 5-star hotel, has a private patio or terrace.

There are then Executive Suites, Garden Suites, Family Suites, Pool Suites and the most luxurious of all the offerings in the hotel, the Cortesin Suites. The Cortesins are the best of the best that the resort has to offer when it comes to accommodation, with each suite featuring two king-sized beds, the same marble touch in the bathroom, and four-metre high ceilings, meaning the suites are light and airy.

Away from the hotel, there are also two private residences that can be rented out as well. The Villa, La Reserva offers a stunning four-bedroom accommodation that sleeps up to eight people. A new project has been introduced at Finca Cortesin, with 16 stunning private residences to be built. These will all have five bedrooms and sleep up to ten people, in the utmost luxury.
