Oitavos Dunes Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Golf With Atlantic Views

Oitavos Dunes is one of the newest golf courses in the region, based in the Sintra-Cascais National Park, and it has been designed and built with sensitive development to make sure the region is not threatened. The renowned Arthur Hills was the man to design the course, which is one of only two in Europe to boast his name.

The course provides incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean, thanks to its elevated tees. The majority of holes are tree-lined, which means the course requires accuracy off the tee. The back nine opens up slightly more, with the par-3 14th hole being the course’s signature hole. Playing over a ravine that runs along the right hand side. With the wind coming in off the Atlantic, it requires a solid tee shot.

The venue’s status as a championship level resort was stamped when it hosted the Open de Portugal, a DP World Tour event, in the 2000s. Oitavos Dunes played host in 2005, and then from 2007 to 2009. Amateur Pablo Martin was the victor in 2007, with Paul Broadhurst, Gregory Bourdy and Michael Hoey also being victorious at the event in Oitavos.
