Thracian Cliffs | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort comprises amazing sea view properties, the preserved wild beauty of Kaliakra National Park ecosystem and a couple of glorious white beaches. Located on the Black Sea coastline of Bulgaria, Thracian Cliffs also features a Gary Player-designed championship golf course and the stunning Thracian Spa.

That championship golf course played host to the Volvo World Match Play Championship on the DP World Tour in 2013. In doing so, Thracian Cliffs became the first Bulgarian venue to host a DP World Tour event. The Gary Player design sees the first eight holes of the golf course played alongside the cliffs and coastline of the Black Sea. The signature holes are the 6th and 7th, with the latter being one of the most photographed tee shots in the world of golf.

Away from the golf, Thracian Cliffs' accommodation is split into two sections - the Marina Village and Hillside Village. Both villages offer a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom accommodation, all designed with elegance and comfort in mind, whilst being kitted out with the latest mod-cons.

The Thracian Spa is a glorious place to relax and unwind. It is an award-winning sanctuary of peace, where ancient treatment philosophies merge with modern techniques to create the perfect environment for guests to destress and rejuvenate themselves. Natural and organic products are used throughout the facility, with a range of massages, treatments and facials available.

Bulgaria might not be the obvious choice when it comes to a golfing holiday, but with a Gary Player-designed golf course, stunning accommodation and a glorious spa facility, along with a joyous Kids’ Club, there really is something for everyone on the coast of the Black Sea.

Thracian Cliffs Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Gary Player Signature Course

The man behind the Signature Course at Thracian Cliffs had this to say when it opened:

“You will not find a golf course like this anywhere else on the planet.”

South Africa’s Gary Player, a nine-time major champion, was the man to design the stunning golf course at Thracian Cliffs. The golf course covers 85 heaters of glorious landscape, with the epic cliff edges following the front nine as the Black Sea looms on the right.

The 6th and 7th holes are the two most famous on the golf course. The par-3 6th measures at 230 yards from the back tees, with the green cut into the hillside some 50 yards lower than the tee box. Navigate your way through that, and then there is one of the most photographed holes in all of golf.

The tee box on the 7th is literally in the Black Sea, with a carry of almost 200 yards to the fairway. The first eight holes all play down the coastline of the Black Sea, with the cliffs on the right all the way down.

The Gary Player Signature Course achieved its championship status in 2013, when the course was the host for the Volvo World Match Play Championship. It was the first DP World Tour event to ever be held in Bulgaria, and Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell defeated Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee 2&1 in the final.

Thracian Cliffs Golf Academy

The Thracian Cliffs Golf Academy is on hand to offer support, coaching and world class facilities to golfers of all ages and abilities on the Bulgarian coast of the Black Sea. With a driving range and short game area, there is everything golfers need to try and hone their skills.

World Class Accommodation

Thracian Cliffs is the home to some glorious accommodation options. Their range is split into the Marina Village and the Hillside Village, with the two options offering something slightly different, but giving all guests and groups what they would be looking for on a golfing holiday.

Marina Village
Marina Village is the core of the Thracian Cliffs Resort, and it is situated just a stone’s throw from the coastline of the Black Sea. The complex offers a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom residences.

Those residences all feature an open-plan living room and a built-in kitchenette for guests who enjoy cooking to serve themselves and their families a treat in front of the Black Sea. Each place comes with its own private balcony and has a stylish Mediterranean interior with modern amenities.

The Village itself is not just accommodation, with a range of restaurants and entertainment in the Marina. There is a piazza, shopping centre, night club and the main reception to go along with the six residential buildings. The Thracian Spa is also housed in the Marina Village.

Hillside Village
The second option is the Hillside Village, which sits higher up than Marina Village, and has stunning views of the championship golf course and out to the blue water of the Black Sea. The Hillside Village comprises ten residential buildings sitting in an amphitheatre formation.

The offerings are very similar to those in the Marina Village, with an array of one-, two- and three-bedroom places available. However, the Hillside Village is also the home to a select number of studio apartments. The same level of mod-cons and amenities are available at each of the properties in Hillside Village.

Thracian Cliffs Spa & Wellness

Thracian Cliffs also has a glorious spa and wellness facility to allow its guests to rejuvenate their mind, body and soul during a stay on the Bulgarian coastline. Ancient philosophies and modern techniques are merged to create a lovely atmosphere, while organic and natural products are used during treatments and massages.

The Thracian Spa has plenty of facilities for all of its guests. There is a Hammam, hot steam baths, infrared sauna, ice corner, jacuzzi, cold shock shower, treatment rooms and a panoramic fitness zone, along with a relaxing indoor area and a private sun deck with sun loungers.

The list of treatments and massages at the Thracian Spa is extensive. There are both Deep Tissue and Sports Massages for those who have just finished a round of golf, while relaxing massages can help to alleviate stress. Body treatments all use Charme D’Orient - France products.
