Hellidon Lakes Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Three Beautiful Nines

Hellidon Lakes is home to 27 holes of golf, comprised of three nines which can be combined into a variety of 18-hole courses. The nines are the Hellidon, the Lakes and the Valley, with the former two being where the resort got its name from. The Valley is the most recent addition to the golfing landscape.

The Hellidon followed by The Lakes is the Championship course and the most challenging combination. This permutation has hosted several PGA Professional events. The Valley course is a little flatter and, although demanding, offers a few more scoring opportunities to the average golfer. Many holes feature water hazards, invariably offering the choice of challenging carries over water, or safer routes skirting the numerous lakes. Course management is at a premium.

The Hellidon
The Hellidon Course begins with a remarkable risk-and-reward drivable par 4 with out of bounds lurking on the right-hand side. With the first two holes safely negotiated you reach the sweeping par-4 3rd with its undulating fairway, well positioned bunkers, and delicate green. With the tree-lined, rolling fairways and tricky dog legs this course is a test for all.

The Lakes
This nine has some of the most stunning holes you’ll ever play in England. The 11th is a sweeping par 5 down through the trees to a green with a lake as a backdrop. The 14th has two ponds down the left-hand side and a small pond catching the bigger hitters off the tee. This nine is best known for the stunning par 3 finishing hole over “Hellidon Lake". Each hole has its own challenge and unique character.

The Valley
Although the newest of the three nines and the shortest, the Valley has its own set of unique challenges. The par-3 2nd is played from an elevated tee to a tight green, shadowed by a tall oak on the left and a sneaky pond on the right. Accuracy is paramount. There are only a few bunkers, but don’t be fooled into thinking this will be a pushover, as water comes into play on five holes.

Leisure & Wellness

Away from the golf course there is plenty to do during a stay at Hellidon Lakes. It’s not something you will find at many venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Glf Resorts list, but the resort has its own bowling alley, with four full-sized lanes that can accommodate six people each.

Outdoors, there is a tennis court that can be hired by guests and members, with the astro-surfaced court being open every day. There is also a fitness centre with a state-of-the-art gym that features both cardio and strength equipment.

For those looking to relax during their time at Hellidon Lakes, the Wellness Centre is the place to go. The stunning facility includes a Thermal Suite – with hydropool, steam rooms, Eclipse and salt saunas, ice fountain and more. Qualified professionals are on hand to provide a range of treatments and massages as well, for that added relaxation.
