Greetham Valley is one of Rutland’s finest golfing venues, and well deserving of a spot on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list. Add in practice facilities, a 35-room hotel and eight glorious lodges, and you round out the Greetham Valley portfolio.

In terms of golf, Greetham has plenty to offer. The Par 72 Lakes Course is the largest layout on the property and offers a true test of golfing ability. The Par 68 Valley Course is only 5,500 yards, but don’t sleep on the layout’s difficulty. Greetham Valley is also home to a 9-hole par 3 Academy Course, driving range and short game area, while a PGA-qualified professional is on hand to provide lessons and coaching.

Away from the golf, the venue is also a wonderful place for corporate events and weddings. There are two beautiful suites for the latter, each of which can be decorated for how the happy couple want their day to look like. Meeting and conference rooms are available for corporate visits, with one room big enough to hold 300 people.

There is not a wide range when it comes to accommodation at Greetham Valley, but what there is, is done beautifully. The hotel only has 35 rooms, but each one – whether equipped with a king-sized bed or twin beds – is comfortable and elegant. There are also eight Rutland Lodges which are self-catering options and they provide a perfect spot for larger groups to stay.

Greetham Valley Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

45 Holes of Golf

When it comes to golf, Greetham Valley certainly has guests covered. The resort is home to two championship-standard golf courses – the Lakes Course and the Valley Course – along with the 9-hole par 3 Academy Course.

Lakes Course
The Lakes Course is the longer of the two layouts at Greetham Valley and plays in two loops to bring golfers back to the clubhouse and Lounge Bar after nine holes. The front nine plays in the north of the resort, with the back nine sitting at the southern side of the resort. The Lakes is a Par 72 course, that plays over 6,700 yards from the back tees. There are a range of teeing options, though, to make a round on the Lakes Course enjoyable for players of all levels.

The back nine features both the signature holes on the Lakes Course. The par 3 10th is the first of those. Golfers tee off over the water to find the green, which is almost 200 yards away. The finishing hole on the layout is the other signature hole. The 18th is a dog-leg par 4 of just under 400 yards. The green sits in between two water hazards, with the clubhouse watching on as the backdrop.

Valley Course
The Valley Course is the shorter of the two, and only just tips over 5,500 yards from the back tees. The Par 68 layout is no pushover though, with the six par 3s on the course all presenting different challenges. There is also the longest hole on the course, along with plenty of sand and water hazards throughout.

The 12th is the longest hole, measuring 565 yards from the back tees. A long par 5 that turns slightly to the right as you get down there, there is just one bunker greenside. The danger is the hole’s length, and possibly for those that think they can get there in two. Meanwhile, both the 3rd and 18th holes are less than 120 yards long. 3 plays through a valley of trees to a green guarded by a single bunker, while the closing hole on the Valley Course plays entirely over water, making club selection crucial.
