The two golf courses at Belton Woods – the Lakes Course and the Woods Course – offer two completely differing layouts. As expected from their names, there is more water on the Lakes Course, with some greens guarded by water hazards. Meanwhile, the Woods Course features tree-lined fairways and greens. The Lakes Course is a Par 72 track while the Woods Course is a Par 73 but is slightly shorter than its bigger brother.

If you’re looking for a resort with plenty of golfing choice, Belton Woods must be up there. The Lincolnshire venue has two championship level courses, with the Lakes Course and the Woods Course offering different challenges for guests and members.  

 

The Lakes Course 

As its name suggests, the course with more water hazards out of the two at Belton Woods is the Lakes Course. It is a Par 72 layout that measures more than 6,750 yards, with lakes guarding the approach to several greens on the 18-hole layout. The course plays mainly in the middle of the resort, but runs in two loops, so you can easily play just nine holes on the Lakes.  

 

Water first appears in front of the 2nd green, the first par 3 on the course. There is also a hazard by the side of the 8th green, with the 9th hole on the Lakes Course taking you back to the clubhouse. However, that’s not the main reason we bring it up. The closing hole on the front nine measures more than 600 yards, and it is one of the longest holes in the country.  

 

10 and 12 both have remarkably similar water features in front of their respective greens, with the latter making golfers decide whether to go for it in two on the par 5 12th. 15 is only 320 yards from the back tees and could see the longer hitters going for it. However, with a huge water hazard in front of the green, the smart play is to lay up in front of it and have a short wedge in to a relatively small green. The closing hole on the Lakes is also a par 5 with water in front of the green, like the 12th. However, at just 485 yards, it is very reachable in two. Go for it or lay-up and play safe? It’s a big call at the end of your round. 

 

The Woods Course 

The Woods Course is slightly shorter than the Lakes Course and plays as a Par 73 at 6,660 yards. Like the Lakes Course, the Woods Course at Belton Woods also works as two nine-hole loops. The first nine sit on the northwestern side of the Lakes Course, while the southeastern side of the resort features the back nine of the layout. The luxury lodges on the property back out onto the first few holes of the Woods Course.  

 

Holes 4, 5 and 6 sit on the other side of the railway line which runs through the resort, but they provide the same challenge as the rest of the golf course. Three of the par 5s on the layout measure less than 500 yards, making it slightly more scorable than the Lakes Course. The 7th is a dog-leg right which turns after the tee shot. The green is guarded by seven bunkers, but longer hitters could get home in two shots.  

 

The 14th is the longest hole on the course at 545 yards, and plays with Belton Lane on its left, so anything over the trees is gone forever. Like its bigger sibling, the Woods Course finishes with a short par 5. At less than 480 yards, it is reachable in two, but there is water to the right of the green, the same water hazard that sits in front of the 18th on the Lakes.

The Feature Rooms come with either king-sized beds or a pair of twin beds, and each Feature Room comes with its own private balcony or patio. The Family Rooms have been recently refurbished and offer space with either two double beds, or with a double and two single beds. The Suites at Belton Woods are the best of the accommodation offerings, each coming with its own separate living area from the bedroom. Some of the Suites also have their own private balcony. 

 

The Belton Woods Bar & Grill is the main restaurant at the resort, with plenty of choice for all palates. The Claret Jug is the bar in the clubhouse, perfect for those looking for a drink after a game of golf. There is also the opportunity to enjoy Afternoon Tea during your time at Belton Woods.  

Like all QHotels resorts, Belton Woods is also home to a Health Club and Spa, and one that is fully equipped. There is a state-of-the-art gym with the latest Life Fitness equipment, featuring cardiovascular and weight machines. Personal training and fitness classes, including Pilates and yoga, are all available at the Health Club.  

 

Golf is not the only sport you can get involved in during your time at Belton Woods. There are both squash and tennis courts that are available to hire, while the football pitch and activity field offer another way to exercise. Walking trails around the resort give a suitable way to those who don’t play golf to explore the resort.

Where is Belton Woods?  
Belton Woods is just outside Grantham in Lincolnshire, England. It is between the villages of Belton and Manthorpe, with Grantham sitting only three miles to the south. The city of Nottingham is 25 miles to the west of Belton Woods.  

What is the nearest airport and station to Belton Woods?  
East Midlands Airport is the nearest international airport to Belton Woods, sitting around an hour away by car to the west, outside of Derby. Jet2.com, Ryanair and TUI Airways have hubs at East Midlands Airport, which operates flights to most European countries. For flights from the United States, London Stansted Airport will be the best bet, sitting under two hours away to the south. 

 

Grantham is one of the major stops on the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) service between London Kings Cross, Leeds, and Edinburgh. It is also the nearest train station to Belton Woods, around three miles from the golf resort.
