Kingswood Golf Club, Surrey

Any course which has the name 'James Braid' attached to it is bound to be something special, and Kingswood is no different. The revered course designer made his mark on this little piece of Surrey by creating a 6,900-yard layout offering mature and testing golf. Kingswood is a venue that was close to Braid in more ways than one. Whilst working at Walton Heath, he lived less than a mile away from the course and could therefore give it extensive attention throughout the design and building process in the 1920s.

The course has since experienced re-design and construction under the guidance of Howard Swan, recognised course architect for James Braid designed courses, and boasts some of the classic Braid features such as doglegs and strategically placed cross-bunkers. Kingswood is a stylish course that sets up to challenge all aspects of a player's game. It is long enough to demand powerful hitting off the tee, but it's strategic design requires more than just power. Guile round the greens and appropriate course management skills are prerequisites to scoring well here. Another strength to Kingswood is how the club operates off the course. There are few clubs which boast the breadth of society days, golf packages and one off events that are showcased here. Tailored packages are also available on request.  Recently the club hosted a combined golf and poker day - an excellent example of how Kingswood constantly looks to provide new and innovative services to its members and the public. This is truly an outstanding venue which should not be sidestepped on a visit to Surrey.
