Lancaster Golf Club
With the Lakeland Mountains to the north and the rolling hills of the Trough of Bowland to the east, Lancaster is one of the more picturesque venues in English golf.
It also boasts one of the oldest clubhouses in the country. Ashton Hall dates back to medieval times and has played host to a number of English kings in centuries gone by.
Despite these attractions, the jewel in the crown is the 6,512-yard, par-71 parkland layout.
Designed by world renowned architect James Braid in 1932, the course features trademark Braid bunkering and subtle changes in terrain that will challenge any golfer. Much of the back nine also looks out towards the open bay, and brings a pleasant links feel to the course.
The toughest hole on the layout is the par-four ninth. Measuring 385 yards, the hole features a slightly dogleg, tree-lined fairway and a tricky approach shot to a well-bunkered green.

Known as “Braid’s Best”, the demanding 437-yard par-four requires two of your best strokes to reach the green, while the putting surface is heavily bunkered to the front. The layout has played host to a number of prestigious tournaments, including the Lancashire Amateur Championships, as well as the EGU Northern Seniors Competition. Golf aside, the club is a popular function venue and has staged weddings, product launches and even fashion shows. Five spacious rooms are available for hire, while the club will happily tailor its award-winning catering facilities to suit your budget. The club is easily accessible from the M6.
