PlayGolf Leatherhead Golf Club

Founded in 1903, PlayGolf Leatherhead is not only one of Surrey’s most mature parkland courses; it is also one of its finest. The club’s fairways are lined with ancient oak trees, which give you a real feeling of seclusion, while the greens are well guarded by small bunkers and subtle contours. At just over 6,200 yards, the course offers a thorough test of your game, with patience key around the front nine and the chance to attack around the back. The layout compromises of five par 3s, four par 5s and 11 par 4s, making up a par of 71. The back nine is the easier of the two, with three of the par-3s and three drivable par 4s - two at 264-yards and another at 302-yards – all providing chances to pick-up shots.

2012 also sees the start of an exciting period for the club, as James Edwards Golf Designs start a three-year project to remodel six holes. The process will eventually see the adding of new bunkers, ditches and tees, among other improvements. The course, formerly known as Leatherhead Golf Club, has hosted PGA events and is a regular venue for Surrey County Golf Union fixtures. Furthermore, 1935 Open champion Alfred Perry was the Club Professional for over 40 years before his retirement in 1972 and you can see various mementoes of his career dotted around the clubhouse. PlayGolf Leatherhead can be found just minutes from junction nine of the M25 and so is ideally placed for those looking to play while visiting the capital, or is equally handy for those looking to escape the city and make the most of the great twilight rates in the summer.
