Reaseheath College Golf Club

Reaseheath Golf Club was founded in 1987. The course had been developing in the years up to this point as a result of the increased requirement for facilities for the practical training of green-keeping and golf course management students. Since 1987 the club has grown substantially and now has over 600 members. Within the club there is a Mens Section, Ladies Section and Junior Section. There is a full fixture list of club competitions and the club now plays a range of friendly matches against other clubs as well as playing in the North Staffs and District League. The club is affiliated to the English Golf Union and the Ladies Section to the LGU. The clubhouse is in the George England Pavilion, named after a former principal of Cheshire College of Agriculture (Reaseheath College’s former name), a keen sportsman and the first president of Reaseheath Golf Club. There are limited catering facilities and no bar. However, the meeting room, lined with honours boards, provides a comfortable setting for many golf club functions. The golf course at Reaseheath is a flat parkland type course extending to 40 acres (16 hectares). The 9-hole course is home to Reaseheath Golf Club, with just under 600 members. The course’s origins, however, go back to the requirement to provide practical facilities for training purposes. Reaseheath Golf Club was founded in 1987, although there had been several holes created before that time. Reaseheath College has been training green-keepers and golf course managers for over 25 years. Although relatively short and only 9 holes, the course is ideal for golfers of all ages and standards. The length is suitable for beginners and young junior members, the flatness is suitable for older members who find full length courses, particularly undulating courses, too tiring. However, the relatively narrow fairways, strategically placed trees and hazards and relatively small greens, well protected by bunkers on most holes, provide a challenge for lower handicap golfers.
