Sickleholme Golf Club, Derbyshire
Founded in 1898, Sickleholme is a small friendly club nestling in the heart of the beautiful Peak District of Derbyshire, some 13 miles from Sheffield, 16 miles from Chesterfield and 15 miles from Glossop.
With an undulating parkland course of 6,064 yards (Ladies 5,399 yards) and stunning views, it is hard to find a more spectacular or enjoyable venue anywhere in the area.
After playing the course, the great Bobby Locke was so impressed with it that a painting of the 13th hole graced the mantlepiece at his home in South Africa for many years.Starting up the hill, the course levels out after the first green and undulates through some of the most beautiful countryside of the Peak District, finishing with a superb view down the Hope Valley from the elevated 18th tee - a good 200+ yard Par 3 test when the wind is westerly. An array of well positioned bunkers, undulating greens, and tight tree-lined fairways await throughout the layout. The course has been subjected to a substantial amount of re-investment and improvement over the last few years, and the greens in particular are outstanding. It is immaculately presented throughout the year and rarely closes during the winter months. After playing the course, the great Bobby Locke was so impressed with it that a painting of the 13th hole graced the mantlepiece at his home in South Africa for many years.
