Stapleford Park Golf Club

Stapleford Park is more than just a fine golf course.  Surrounded by 500 acres of magnificent Capability Brown landscaped grounds, it is the perfect English sporting country estate. Situated in the heart of England near Melton Mowbray and Rutland Water, since Georgian times this impressive house has been the setting for centuries of hospitality, country pursuits, fine living and relaxation. That remains very much the case today; the country house hotel and sporting estate guarantees a warm welcome, a calm space and a wide choice of sports, leisure and fine dining. The golf course certainly doesn't let the side down. Remarkably free from intrusion, it was designed by the renowned architect Donald Steel and boasts ever-changing views of the House, its lakes and 500-acre park. This is classic English countryside at its very best. The course wraps around the heart of the estate in two extended loops, never being more than two holes wide, making golf here reminiscent of the great links courses. This layout provides continuous variety in the direction of the holes, as well as producing a series of stunning views. The Championship course is challenging and was selected by the PGA European Seniors Tour to host their prestigious new golf tournament in May 2010. There is no need to have temporary greens and tees in the winter. After 18 hole, members and hotel guests like to unwind with lunch and a drink or meet friends and family at the House for an evening meal. Perfect for a short golf break, Stapleford Park has everything to offer the golfer looking for a challenging course and a relaxing time in beautiful surroundings.
Remarkably free from intrusion, it was designed by the renowned architect Donald Steel and boasts ever-changing views.
It also has celebrity endorsements too, from two Ryder Cup stars of the past and present. “It's the whole set up here that attracted me to Stapleford Park," says Justin Rose. "I can't think of anywhere more relaxing to come, to get away from the pressures of everyday life on the tour.” “I love to play Donald Steel's courses and believe Stapleford to be one of England's greatest jewels,” added Sam Torrance, also European captain in 2002. This quintessential English golfing experience will enthral golfers from all over the world. Woods, ponds and streams, all teeming with wildlife, feature on many holes, although the meandering River Eye perhaps adds greatest strategic interest to the golf, coming into play on four holes. Enjoyment is the crucial factor and on every hole, all standards of player are given a fair crack of the whip, with approaches on which the ball can be run onto the green. Particular care has been taken during the design of the course to ensure that this exceptional historic landscape remains pristine. The distinctive Scottish-style revetted bunkers have been used to exert maximum influence on the play of the better golfer, who is tempted to flirt with them to gain the advantage of being in prime position for the next shot. Grassy humps and hollows have also been used to shape the holes because they are less intimidating for the higher handicapper and the scratch player knows all too well the hazard that such features present. Overlooking the 18th hole stands the stone built, thatched Golf Pavilion. The Pavilion was opened in the Autumn of 2000 by Rose, one of the world's highest-ranked golfers. The Pavilion, built in the style of the old cottages on the estate, houses the Members' Meeting Room, pro-shop and changing rooms overlooking the 18th hole. The Pavilion offers light refreshments. Golf here is exclusive but accessible; it has a very relaxed ambience… you may even be lucky enough to just turn up and play.
