Strathmore Golf Centre

Located at the heart of Strathmore valley in Perthshire, Strathmore Golf Centre is one of the region's newest designs. Opened in 1996, the club prides itself on offering something for everyone. As well as two courses, the club provides a ten-bay covered range, golf academy and pay-and-play memberships that are perfect for the casual golfer. The main attraction is the par-72, 6,454-yard Rannaleroch course. Designed by John Salvesen, the layout is set in undulating parkland surrounded by mature trees. Salvesen's ingenious design work means that, despite the rolling terrain, there are very few uphill holes. The layout boasts generous greens that make for great targets, but be wary of the subtle slopes that make holing out trickier than you might expect. The par-5 5th poses the biggest threat on the front nine and requires a lengthy tee shot to carry over a stretch of water. Salvesen's ingenious design work means that despite the rolling terrain, there are very few uphill holes.

A short walk from the 8th tee lies the Leiftie Links course, a fantastic 9-hole track that perfectly complements the main design. It is an ideal layout for beginners. It boasts holes ranging from 83 to 212 yards and offers more than enough to keep advanced players interested. The greens are small and tough to hit, while the putting surface at the 9th is set on two levels, making it a very difficult surface to hold. Day tickets for the 9-hole design are available for as little as £12, making this one of the best value golfing days in the country. Strathmore Golf Centre is a venue lies close to the cities of Dundee and Perth, both of which have excellent road links to Scotland's central belt and indeed the whole of the UK.
