The main course, Manchester
Where is it?
This Harry Colt design is set out on rugged moorland some 20 minutes north of Manchester city centre.
Much History?
The club was created in 1882, but moved to its current site at Hopwood Park in 1912. Legendary course architect Colt created the layout, which largely remains untouched today. Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke and Mark James all played here in Qualifying School events
Did you know...
The Hopwood Festival
Every year, the club welcomes golfers from far and wide to play in their Festival Week, which takes place in August. Tournaments for men, ladies and juniors are played at the club, and booking for 2014 is now open.
How’s the course?
The course occupies a massive 240-acre plot at Hopwood Park, and plays out over a naturally undulating landscape. Manchester is known for the quality of its short holes, with the signature 13th being one of the most attractive. The vast landscape is broken up by mature woods of sycamore and birch.
Is it expensive?
Summer green fees start from £60, with winter rounds starting at £20. Offers are available online.
When can I play?
The course is open to visitors during the week and on Sundays. There are various membership packages available, including reduced prices for under 30s.
