The Warrington Golf Club

SITUATED less than a mile from the M56, Warrington is easily accessible and is an excellent choice for visiting parties.  James Braid’s heathland layout is noted for its natural surroundings and, positioned at the highest point in Warrington, offers fine views of Lancashire, Cheshire and the Welsh hills.  Though not the longest at 6,200 yards, it is a fair and enjoyable test for any level of golfer. Its superb drainage makes play possible for the full 52 weeks of the year. The Warrington was founded in 1903 and is located on the south side of the town.    Recent improvements to the course and its woodland areas have created a venue that is both a challenging test of golf and an enjoyable experience for members and visitors. Perhaps the toughest hole is the sloping par-5 5th, which isn’t especially long for a three-shotter at 480 yards but is uphill and unforgiving.
The 7th offers a wonderful elevated tee where you can drink in fabulous views before opening your shoulders – but beware the bunkers eating into the right side of this 361-yard par 4.
The previous hole has a bunker left and a pond to the right, thus dictating a fine drive is required in addition to a well-played shot to the green. The 7th offers a wonderful elevated tee where you can drink in fabulous views before opening your shoulders – but beware the bunkers eating into the right side of this 361-yard par 4. At the 171-yard, par-3 9th an accurate tee shot is required to a green cut into the hill, and you must favour the right. The 13th is a pretty 155-yard hole that requires a true shot with plenty of 'bite' to fly the two bunkers short and right and hold the green… so you don't trickle into the traps at the back. The 16th, the shortest par 3 at 152 yards, is played uphill to a small green and with OOB on the left close by, there is no room for errors while the 18th is a robust finish at 437 yards. The imposing clubhouse also has excellent bar and catering services for the hungry and thirsty golfer at the end of a round.
