Rankings

89th

The Warwickshire is one of several venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list that has several golf courses. There are two 18-hole layouts and a par 3 course, while the hotel has more than 50 glorious rooms. Throw in a health club and you’ve got almost everything you could possibly wish for at the West Midlands venue.

When it comes to golf, The Warwickshire has a little bit of everything. The Earls Course and the Kings Course are the two 18-hole offerings, with the former being the layout that runs through mature woodlands, while the Kings Course is more of an American parkland-style track, with wider fairways and more water to avoid. The golf doesn’t stop there, with a 9-hole par 3 course, and a driving range to boot.

The Warwickshire’s Hotel offers more than 50 gloriously appointed rooms for those staying the night, coming in Twin and Double forms, along with Superior and Deluxe offerings as well. The venue is also home to a Health Club, with a fully equipped gym, fitness classes, indoor pool and even personal training on offer.

The Warwickshire Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

45 Holes of Golf

The Warwickshire, like a number of venues on the NCG Top 100s: Golf Resorts list, can boast two 18-hole courses. The venue plays host to the Earls Course and the Kings Course, while there is also a 9-hole par-3 course – the Castle Course – on site as well.

Earls Course

The Earls Course is the tighter of the two layouts at The Warwickshire, with tree-lined fairways and plenty of water hazards to catch you out. Mature woodlands are on show throughout the front nine, before the course opens out into slightly more undulating terrain on the back side of the golf course.

After a tricky start, the 4th then comes into view – the monster on the Earls Course. Off the back tees, it is a par 5 that pushes towards 640 yards. It plays that long thanks to a sharp dog-leg right which comes after the drive. If you can reach the corner, you will have more of a view of the rest of the hole – not that you will be tempted into going for the green. Three bunkers guard the right side of the putting surface, one that is long and narrow.

The back nine also begins with a lengthy par 5 – pushing towards the 600-yard mark. Like the 4th, it plays as a dog-leg right, with the boundary of the property coming into play on both the second and third shots. The 11th is one of the signature holes on the Earls Course – a 170-yard par 3 that is played to an island green. Although the water is not directly next to the green, the runoffs from the putting surface will take any ball missing the green down towards the drink.

The Earls finishes with another great par 5, one that firstly moves to the left, before then turning to the right towards the green. Trees sit on the left side of the fairway so anything pulled to that side will be in danger. Anything pushed right will leave a longer second, and possibly third, to the final green.

Kings Course

As described on The Warwickshire’s website, the Kings Course “requires you to use your brain more than your brawn”. It is shorter than the Earls Course but still measures a hefty 6,800 from the White tees. The course is more in the American parkland style, and there is plenty of water that must be avoided throughout a round.

The par 3s offer a range of challenges on the Kings Course. The 4th is the easiest of the lot, playing just 160 yards and all over dry land. The 12th is the longest of the 3s at well over 200 yards, with some maybe having to play it as a short par 4. Then, you’ve got the 8th and 17th – both featuring the dreaded hazards. The former is the longer of the two, and is played entirely over water, to a green that is also guarded by five bunkers. Then, the penultimate hole also makes you hit over the drink, with long being the safe play.

The last of the 3s is sandwiched by a great pair of par 5s, with the closing stretch on the Kings Course separating the good from the bad. 16 is a proper double dog-leg, in opposite directions. Off the tee, it moves round to the right, before a 90-degree turn to the left. Thanks to the second change in direction, you might be tempted to cut across the water and go for the green, instead of playing down the right side before knocking a wedge on. Like the Earls, the Kings also finishes with a par 5, one that is much more straight forward – though it is almost 600 yards!

Castle Course

The Castle Course is the 9-hole par-3 offering at The Warwickshire, and is the perfect spot for those trying to learn the nuances of the game. With holes measuring from 90 up to 200 yards, and with greens and fairways cut exactly as you will find on the two 18-hole layouts, it also works as a nice warm-up. The Castle Course sits at the west of the property, alongside the Strike Shack – the venue’s driving range.
