Ulverston Golf Club
Ulverston was originally founded in 1895 and is situated at the southern end of the Lake District overlooking Morecambe Bay.
It has been at this location close to the quaint village of Bardsea alongside the coast road to Barrow-in-Furness since 1910.
The course is set in 190 acres of rolling parkland and also offers extensive wooded areas to provide variation throughout a round. Measuring 6261 yards from the back tees with a stroke index of 71, the course is set up to provide a fair but examining test for lower handicap players.
However, cleverly placed yellow tees reduces the length to 6060 yards - ideal for those with a higher handicap. At 5720 yards from the red tees, Ulverston sets up equally well for ladies and juniors.
The opening seven holes provide a real examination of your game. A round opens with a moderate length par-4 containing a blind tee shot with out-of-bounds both short and wide. The first fairway is narrow and plays down to a tiered green, so pin placement will influence your approach.

At around 400 yards, the par-4 third is one of the most difficult holes on the course. Mature trees guard the fairway on both sides, and the green is well protected by cleverly positioned bunkers. Once on the putting surface, you will find deceptive slopes to negotiate. Escape with par here and you should be extremely happy.
The final tee is close to the highest point on the course and offers splendid views. The Old Man of Coniston can be seen in the north, Conishead priory to the east, with Morecambe Bay and Blackpool Tower to the south.
