Waterton Park Golf Club

The Parkland course is conveniently located within easy reach of junction 39 of the M1, it is sited on the world’s first nature reserve created by Charles Waterton in 1820. Sir David Attenborough, the broadcaster and naturalist, visited Waterton Park in March 2013 saying that ‘Charles Waterton was little known not only internationally, but, shamefully, in this country too. But he was a great and important figure’. Designed by Simon Gidman and opened for play in 1995, the course design cleverly exploits the 200 acres available, creating a spaciousness not found on most courses. The course has been built to extremely high standards with USGA specification greens and approaches, elevated teeing grounds, more than 50 bunkers and thousands of trees. The condition of the course is always good, especially the fairways and greens, the greens are in play all year round. The club has excellent facilities available to members, societies and visitors. This includes a halfway house which is open every day serving hot and cold refreshments. Pull and electric trolleys and buggies can be hired from the golf shop. A state of the art performance fitting centre allows golfers to have their clubs custom fitted. There are more than 160,000 combinations of a 6-iron alone that can be made up. The experienced and highly qualified staff – including Matt Pearson who has been selected for the second year running as one of the World’s top 100 IPAC club fitters - has no affiliation to any manufacturer. KZG components are used to club fit as they offer the widest range of shafts, heads and grips all on a fast fit system to ensure quick and correct fitting. The clubhouse has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. On the ground floor there are well-appointed women’s and men’s locker rooms, the spacious ‘Eddies bar’ and an extremely well stocked golf shop.
