Wetherby Golf Club

Wetherby Golf Club which was founded in 1910 on land which, during the 19th Century was the site of Wetherby Racecourse. The golf course lies south west of the town of Wetherby on the border with the village of Linton nestling in the Wharfe Valley and the River Wharfe itself presents a picturesque backdrop for the eastern boundary of the course. The village of Linton stands high on the limestone escarpment above the course and forms the western boundary. The course itself is bisected by the old Leeds to Wetherby railway line which fell victim to the Beeching axe in the 60s. Although the trains used to be an additional hazard for members the line now forms a picturesque swathe of trees and undergrowth providing a natural haven for wildlife but still a ready hazard for the wayward golfer.
