This traditional parkland course offers all the challenges of golf in a hilly terrain – with an excellent mix of holes providing a challenge to the lower handicapper but without intimidating the less proficient golfer.
Good course management skills are needed to ensure a respectable score, which is reflected in the present course record of 65.The well-manicured par-70 parkland course – which sits some 200 ft above sea level – flows through several slightly undulating, stone-walled and tree-lined fields. Good course management skills are needed to ensure a respectable score, which is reflected in the present course record of 65. Its non demanding terrain makes it a pleasure to play for visiting golfers of all ages. It is not a long course by modern standards but you cannot afford to take it lightly. You must think strategically to prosper – as well as drive the ball straight, due to some very tight holes… with out of bounds featuring heavily. Get on the wrong side of the green for your approach shot and you will be faced with some exacting challenges – especially if the greens staff have positioned the pins in cheeky spots. It was founded by local philanthropist Henry Butt along with a group of like-minded prominent businessmen, initially for their own enjoyment. In 1972 the members kindly donated their shares and the club became a private members' club.
