Hever Castle Golf Club

The names 'Kings' and 'Queens' conjure up images of Gleneagles and while Hever Castle isn't quite in the class of the Scottish classic, its two loops of nine are right out of the top drawer. Combined together, the royal duo make ‘The Championship Course’, a par-72 layout that stretches just over 7,000 yards.  Glancing at the scorecard one of the longest holes in Europe, the 644-yard, par-5 17th, certainly stands out; a well-placed drive is needed to set-up any chance of a par on this doglegging brute of a hole. There are many more exciting holes before you get there, with the delightful short 6th and 8th holes both are played over water. Hever’s own ‘Amen Corner’ from the 11th to 13th challenges you to make carries over water to negotiate slick greens.
There is a wonderful blend of hazards, from tight tree-lined fairways to beautifully-presented water hazards, strategically-placed bunkers and slick greens.
The main course is also complimented by the nine hole, 2,784-yard, par-35 Princes layout, which is kept in the same great condition as its neighbour.  You can also mix the Princes course with the Kings, to create a very enjoyable 18 holes at 6,076 yards, with a par of 71.  This hybrid course has a wonderful blend of hazards, from tight tree-lined fairways to beautifully-presented water hazards, strategically-placed bunkers and slick greens. Hever Castle lies just a short drive from Junction 5 or 6 of the M25 – making it easily accessible from London and the rest of the south.  For more about the club visit their brilliant website – one of the best you will find on the golf club scene. In addition to the images we showcase here, there also many more outstanding pictures of their delightful course – it is guaranteed to whet your appetite for a round there.
