Shooters Hill Golf Club

Situated only a mile or two from London’s Isle of Dogs, Greenwich and the now famous 02 Arena, Shooter’s Hill is perfectly placed to pencil in as part of a weekend getaway to the city. The parkland layout, although conveniently close to one of the most frantic postcodes in the country, is quiet and offers many picturesque views over the North Kent countryside. Shooter’s Hill began life in 1903 as a nine-hole layout, before a back nine was added four years later by the renowned course designer Willie Park.  This has since been completely remodelled in the 1930's by Messrs Harris and Colt and to this day presents a first-class test of golfing ability. The course has a number of challenging holes, the standouts being the club’s very own version of ‘Amen Corner’.

The trio of back-to-back par-3s starts on the 9th with a 245-yard monster. Next you have to guide your ball between an avenue of trees on the 161-yard 10th before finally you are challenged to try and fly your ball 159-yards uphill to the 12th green.  Completing these in par is essential to scoring a good round. Off the course, the clubhouse was built in 1873 and is home to the bar and dining facilities, locker rooms and a members' snooker room. The main bar areas also underwent refurbishment in spring 2009, and together with the spike bar offer a good choice for members and visitors alike.
