Whitley Bay Golf Club

The club was first formed in 1890 as a winter Club only ! Golf at that early date was not the popular game it is today and during the summer months the original nine-hole course on the shore was given over to holidaymakers (mostly Scots need I add).In 1910 the nine holes were extended to the full 18 holes that the course is today by taking in new ground on the adjoining farm of Briardene. An additional attraction of the reconstructed course is that it gives frequent views of the sea, with the lighthouse on St Mary's Island as a prominent feature.
