Park Wood Golf Club
Ernie Els won his first US Open, America hosted the football World Cup, Nick Price won two Majors, Tony Blair was elected Labour leader and Jose Maria Olazabal clinched his maiden Green Jacket.
It was against this sporting and political backdrop that Park Wood was opened – and it is difficult to believe it was only in 1994 that this course was completed.
Designed and built by Ray Goldsmith and covering 120 acres of scenic parkland on the North Downs near Tatsfield village, it has matured into one of the hidden gems of Kent.
Park Wood boasts superb, well-drained greens laid to USGA standards while the contours of the fairways help provide testing shots to all greens.
The course has blended into the natural environment exceptionally quickly and is not just an enjoyable location for a round of golf; it’s also a testing challenge for players of all standards.
The par-72 course is perched high on top of the North Downs Ridge, with views of the Surrey, Kent and Sussex countryside… as well as the stunning backdrop of the London skyline with Canary Wharf and the Millennium Dome among the easy-to-recognise landmarks.
Designed and built by Ray Goldsmith and covering 120 acres of scenic parkland on the North Downs near Tatsfield village, it has matured into one of the hidden gems of Kent.Named after the wood which sits alongside the 16th and 17th fairways, Park Wood begins with a gentle dog-leg before you cross Church Hill to play the remainder of the front nine. The 2nd is an acute dog-leg to the left while water and sand lurk off the tee on the next. The following four holes play alongside each other but there remains a feeling of seclusion due to the mature trees lining the fairways. The 8th is a wonderful par 3 over a large pond before you complete the outward half with the reverse hole of the 2nd, a fierce left to right dog leg. On the back nine, the 12th, 15th and 16th require some hefty blows while the 14th is a cute short hole over water – as is the scenic 17th, played to a back drop of the eponymous wood. The closing hole gives you a chance to finish with aplomb and retire to the well-appointed clubhouse for refreshment. A driving range is now open with bunker and chipping areas, plus a putting green and nets are available for you to warm up or to improve your skills prior to embarking on your round of golf.
