England's most northwestern county is home to some glorious golf courses, with links layouts and hillside tracks all on offer. Due to the sheer size of the county, the best golf courses in Cumbria are spread around, all on different sides of the Lake District National Park, which takes up the majority of the county.

With the population of Cumbria coming in at just 500,000 people – one of the lowest numbers in the country – the quality of the courses understandably tends to outweigh the quantity of golf on offer in the county.

The majority of people would say Silloth on Solway if they were asked about golf in Cumbria. It is the best-known course in the county, and the best course in the county for pure golfing enjoyment. Seascale is another cracking links course, and another venue that offers players views of the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man.

There are also some incredible inland layouts as well. Appleby is one of those, based on the Brackenber Moor. Not only will the wind attack you on the coastline, but it will also get to you as you stand on the elevated tees at Appleby as well.

How we compiled our Cumbria list
We updated our Cumbria list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in England. If one Cumbrian course is above another in our England list, then it will also be above it in our Cumbria list.
