Dorset is one of a number of counties on the south coast of England and one of those with several stunning golf courses to boot. It is a county that offers up both parkland and heathland beauties. Despite being on the coastline of England, links courses are few and far between in Dorset.

The most logical base for a trip to this part of the world is either Poole or Bournemouth, with the two places sitting pretty much side-by-side on the south coast of England. The five courses of Dorset that feature on the NCG Top 100s: England list are all in close order to both Poole and Bournemouth.

The county's top three - Parkstone, Broadstone and Ferndown's Old Course - are all in and around the towns of Poole and Bournemouth, with the former sat right between the two. There are plenty of Open Championship wins among the designers of these three courses, with the likes of James Braid, Harold Hilton, and both Willie Park Senior, and Junior, all having a hand in stunning golf courses in the region.

Further south, you will find Isle of Purbeck, which sits in the shadows of Agglestone Rock on the Swanage Peninsula. To the north of Bournemouth is Remedy Oak, the other member of Dorset's top five. Situate yourself in Bournemouth, and you can have a cracking week of golf in the county of Dorset!

How we compiled our Dorset list
We updated our Dorset list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in England. If one course in the county is above another in our England list, then it will also be above it in our Dorset list.
