Fife is, was and always will be, the home of golf. It all began many centuries ago in this part of the world, and there are several iconic venues in the region, arguably making Fife the best golfing region in the United Kingdom.
Golf dates back to 16th Century, with the Old Course at St Andrews first being established in 1552. It only became known as the 'Old' some 340 years later, but it remains the most iconic course in Scotland, and perhaps the world - known as the 'Home of Golf'.
The Old is one of seven courses in the St Andrews portfolio. The New Course, Castle Course, Jubilee Course and Eden Course are among those, while the town also has a pair of great stay-and-play options as well.
Linked with the St Andrews Links Trust is the Old Course Hotel, which teams up with the Duke's Course to provide a great resort. There is also the Fairmont St Andrews Resort, which offers a glorious hotel along with 36 holes of golf. The resort has the Kittocks Course and the Torrance Course to offer its members and guests alike.
Kingsbarns, which is part of the trio of courses to host the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship each year, is another of Fife's best showings. The region also has the likes of the Ladybank, Leven Links, Lundin Links and the Golf House Club, Elie as part of its repertoire, while the recently opened Dumbarnie Links adds another stunning links course to the region.
How we compiled our Fife list
We updated our Fife list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in Scotland. If one course is above another in our Scotland list, then it will also be above it in our Fife list.
