Hampshire is one of several counties on the south coast of England that is home to some incredible golf courses. It is one of the largest counties in the country, with Southampton and Portsmouth as its two major cities, and with the south coast having views over to the nearby Isle of Wight.
Not only is it one of the largest by area, but it is also one of the most populated counties in England, with almost 2 million people calling Hampshire home. There are more than 80 golf courses in the southern White Rose county, and four of those make an appearance on the NCG Top 100s: England list.
Only one of those lies on the coastline, and that is not even on the mainland of the United Kingdom. Hayling sits on Hayling Island, and it is the only true links course in Hampshire to make a claim for a spot on the English list. With the likes of Tom Dunn, Harry Colt and JH Taylor as part of its design team over the years, you know you're in for a treat when you take the trip all the way south to Hayling.
The other venue close to the south coast is Stoneham, which is just a couple of miles north of Southampton. It is a distinctive parkland laid out on either side of a large valley by Willie Park Jr, one of the greats of golf course design in that era. Liphook is the best of the best in Hampshire, with the course being Arthur Croome's legacy in the game of golf.
How we compiled our Hampshire list
We updated our Hampshire list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in England. If one course in the county is above another in our England list, then it will also be above it in our Hampshire list.
