To the south of Norfolk sits the county of Suffolk, the southern section of the East Anglian bump on the eastern coastline of England. Although by the coast, links courses are not the order of the day when it comes to Suffolk, with plenty of heathland and parkland options on offer.
The most logical base for a trip to this part of the world is Ipswich, with several high quality golf courses within just a short drive from the city. There is also the stay-and-play option of the Thorpeness Resort, with the golf course at Thorpeness playing as a heathland layout despite being so close to the coastline of England.
Almost next door to Thorpeness is the Championship Course at Aldeburgh, our highest-ranked course in the county. The Open Championship winning trio of Willie Park Jr, JH Taylor and Harry Colt have all had a hand in the design of the course at Aldeburgh, which runs along the coastline.
Further down the coast, there is also the links of Felixstowe Ferry's Martello Course, which is the only true links course in the county. There is also the likes of Ipswich's Purdis Heath Course, the Heath Course at Woodbridge, and the best 9-hole layout in the country - Royal Worlington & Newmarket.
How we compiled our Suffolk list
We updated our Suffolk list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in England. If one Suffolk course is above another in our England list, then it will also be above it in our Suffolk list.
