Berkshire is well known for its golf, thanks to some of the most well-known courses in the world. Heathland beauties and gorgeous wooded tracks are in order in the county of Berkshire, with a couple of venues playing host to more than one sumptuous layout.

Just to the west of London, with the English capital around an hour away by road or rail, you can easily park yourself in the city centre for a trip to play some of Berkshire's finest courses. Bracknell and Ascot - the latter perfect for those who like their horse racing as well - are also great options.

A total of six major championships have been hosted at Sunningdale over the years, along with the Walker Cup, Curtis Cup and much more. The Berkshire venue is home to both the Old Course - designed by Willie Park Jr. - and the New Course - a Harry Colt layout.

The Berkshire is other venue in the county to play host to two courses - both of which feature on the NCG Top 100s: England list. Herbert Fowler designed both the Red Course and the Blue Course at the venue, which has also played host to the Senior Open Championship.

How we compiled our Berkshire list
We updated our Berkshire list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in England. If one course in the county is above another in our England list, then it will also be above it in our Berkshire list.
