Occupying part of the centre of England, the East Midlands is a hotbed for high-quality inland courses. The region has some of the best parkland and heathland courses that England has to offer.
There are plenty of big cities in the region, including Sheffield, Leicester and Nottingham, but it is Mansfield that has a trio of incredible courses around it. Stay in the city of Mansfield for a few nights, and you are within just a short drive of Sherwood Forest, Coxmoor and Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell), three of the best in the region.
Northants County and Luffenham Heath are to the south, around the city of Northampton, while the likes of Cavendish to the north, all provide high-quality golf. The latter is arguably the best of the best when it comes to golf in the Peak District.
If you go further east, and out to the coast, then you will come to the only pure links course on our East Midlands list. Seacroft is one of very few places in the world to have turned down a proposal from the great Alister MacKenzie, but it remains a stunning course to play. Finally, we have to mention the Hotchkin Course at Woodhall Spa. A venue which is the home of England Golf, the Hotchkin is one of the finest inland courses in the entirety of England, and a must-play for all avid golfers.
How we compiled our East Midlands list
We updated our East Midlands list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in England. If one course from the East Midlands is above another in our England list, then it will also be above it in our East Midlands list.
