Sitting between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands is a small part of Scotland known as Moray. It is an area that is full of solid golf courses, including classic links layouts on the northern coastline of the county, along with some of Scotland's inland highlights.
Golf first came to be not too far south of these parts, and it wasn't too long before it made its way up to Moray. Although there is only a small section of coastline at the north of the county, the links courses along that stretch are of a very high quality.
Arguably, the best venue is the one with the same name. Moray Golf Club has two layouts, with both the Old Course and the New Course sitting high on the list, not only of the region, but in Scotland as well. The Old Course was designed by Old Tom Morris, while it was the great Henry Cotton who designed the New, to give Moray 36 holes of stunning golf.
The region of Moray has some fine links courses that you might never have heard of as well. The likes of Buckpool and Spey Bay - the latter having originally been designed by Ben Sayers, and now in the process of a transformation so it can be played in reverse - are incredible courses.
Duff House Royal, although by the sea, plays as an inland course. It is one of the better layouts in the region, with plenty of difficulties, despite it being short in length. Throw in Elgin, which is one of the best inland courses in the north, and it is not just links layouts that Moray has to offer its visitors.
How we compiled our Moray list
We updated our Moray list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in Scotland. If one course from the region of Moray is above another in our Scotland list, then it will also be above it in our Moray list.
