The West Coast of Wales is a large area, with some 400+ miles of coastline. Knowing the rest of the United Kingdom, it is no surprise that there are some incredible golfing venues along this stretch of coast, with the West Coast of Wales living up to that mantle.
Although there are no major cities on the western coast of Wales, there are lots of little towns and villages where you can stay during your trip. Bear in mind that you are also within a short distance from the Snowdonia National Park, perfect for a long walk on your days off from the golf.
The area is almost split into two section with the Afon Mawddach in between. To the north, there are clusters of great golf courses, with the first of those winding its way around Bae Ceredigion. The best of those is one of just two 'Royal' courses in Wales, Royal St David's. Harlech Castle and the mountains inland look down on the course, with offers stunning views out to the Irish Sea.
Move out on to the Llyn Peninsula which is just north of St David's, and you will find an array of beautiful layouts. Arguably the most visually stunning is Nefyn & District, with a number of holes on their own little peninsula, taking you out into the sea - water surrounding you on three sides. Porthmadog and Abersoch are among the other options for a great game of golf on the Llyn Peninsula.
To the south of the Afon Mawddach, there is more space between the best golf courses of the region. The standout in this part of the Welsh West Coast has to be Aberdovey. The James Braid-design sits in the mouth of the Dovey Estuary, with water around two sides of the course. Borth & Ynyslas and Aberystwyth also shine bright in this area of Wales.
