The North West Coast of England is a paradise of links golf. From Open Championship hosts, to DP World Tour hosts, to courses with the Blackpool Tower as a backdrop, there is something for everyone when it comes to golfing in this part of the country.

The region is split into three sections. There is the Wirral to the south, and then the two parts of Lancashire coastline, either side of the Ribble Estuary. Each section has multiple high-quality links courses.

Starting with the Wirral, which is just west of the city of Liverpool, and the first of a trio of Open Championship host venues. Royal Liverpool, which most recently played host in 2023 where Brian Harman was victorious, is a 13-time host of the oldest tournament in the sport. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are among the big names to have lifted the Claret Jug at Hoylake.

Move further north, off the Wirral and along the Lancashire coastline, and you'll get to Royal Birkdale. It is a ten-time host of the tournament, most recently in 2017 when Jordan Spieth secured his third major crown. On the other side of the Ribble Estuary to the north, you come to the Fylde Coast, and the third Open Championship host - Royal Lytham & St Annes. Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros and Ernie Els are among the winners of the Claret Jug at Lytham, with the South African winning the most recent edition of the tournament in 2012.

Add in the likes of Hillside, Southport & Ainsdale, Wallasey, Fairhaven, Formby and Formby Ladies, and you've got everything you could possibly need for a week's golfing trip in the North West!

How we compiled our North West Coast list
