Chateau des Vigiers

Chateau des Vigiers is one of the best French golfing resorts, and is located in the Dordogne region of the country. The resort is the home to three nine-hole golf courses, and glorious golf academy, a stunning chateau and a wonderful spa, all set in the perfect surroundings of the region.

 

The three nine-hole golf courses were all designed by the great Donald Steel, one of the world’s best architects of natural golf courses. The three sets of nine all offer something slightly different, but finish in front of the Chateau. Throughout each nine, there are stunning views of the local area. There is also a great academy, with driving range and short game area, while Head Professional Vincent Trojani offers lessons and tuition. 

 

Chateau des Vigiers is the main hotel building as well, and is filled with stunning rooms. The second accommodation option is Le Relais des Vigiers, which is situated right next to the first tee of the golf course. Between the two, there are more than 60 rooms, all decorated with modern touches. 

 

The final piece to the puzzle is the Spa by Sothys, which is located on the ground floor of the old wine making building, for a piece of history while guests relax. Treatments and massages are available with a team of trained beauticians on hand. There are also hydrotherapy pools, indoor pools and outdoor heated pools, along with a sauna, hammam and jacuzzi, to encourage the relaxation and rejuvenation process.

Golf at Chateau des Vigiers is split into three stunning nines - The Lakes, The Valley and The Vines - and provides an incredible golfing experience.

 

World-renowned golf course architect Donald Steel was the man behind the three nine-hole loops at Chateau des Vigiers. His work as one of the best ‘natural golf architects’ shows at Vigiers, with the three loops being set in a unique environment.

 

The Par 35 Lake Course winds through mature trees, making accuracy off the tee imperative. The signature hole on the Lake loop is the finishing hole, a difficult par 4 in which the second shot is played over a lake with the Chateau in the background.

 

The Par 36 Valley Course is a more technical loop, and has been designed in the links spirit by Steel. That links feel properly comes through in the final four holes of the Valley loop, which once again works its way back to the clubhouse.

 

The Vine Course is the flattest of the three nine-hole loops at Chateau des Vigiers, but it features a number of double-plateaued greens. Again, the finishing hole is the signature hole on the course, with the Dove Tower that lies to the right of the green. 

 

The Chateau des Vigiers Golf Academy is part of a wonderful practice facility, with a driving range, short game area and academy course. The practice area has a 30-bay driving range, of which six bays are covered and 24 are in the open. 

There is also a wonderful short game area, which includes two pitching greens, a chipping area and putting green. There are two training bunkers, so golfers can practise both fairway and greenside bunker shots. 

Chateau des Vigiers is also the home to a short, six-hole Academy Course. The course is made up of four par-3s and two par-4s, with the par-4s both being drivable. It is the perfect place for beginners to learn the nuances of the game whilst out on the course.

The Academy also offers lessons and tuition, with Head Professional Vincent Trojani having been at the resort for three decades. Trojani and his team offers both individual and group lessons, both on the range and out on the course. 

There are a couple of accommodation options at Chateau des Vigiers, both of which are 4-star. There is the Chateau des Vigiers, and Le Relais des Vigiers. A range of rooms are available across the two properties. Family Rooms, Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Prestige Rooms and Suites are all ready for guests to stay in during their time at Chateau des Vigiers.

 

The building that gives the resort its name, the Chateau des Vigiers, which is affectionately known as ‘Petit Versailles’, is the main staple of the resort.

 

The history of the Chateau comes across from the moment you drive in through the gates. When inside, the intricate fireplaces and imposing staircases enchant guests, while there are also hand-woven tapestries and authentic historic furniture. 

 

There are 25 individually decorated rooms, meaning each room is slightly different to the other offerings at Chateau des Vigiers. There are a range of Classic Rooms, Luxury Rooms and Prestige Rooms, as well as Prestige Suites which offer the utmost luxury.

 

Le Relais des Vigiers is the other accommodation offering at the resort, and it is located right next to the first tee and pro-shop. Guests at Le Relais have free access to the outdoor heated pools, the relaxing area and tennis courts at the Chateau.

 

There are 40 rooms available at Relais des Vigiers, with both Superior Rooms and Family Rooms on offer. The Superior Rooms on the ground floor of Le Relais all have a large terrace, featuring stunning views of the golf course. 

 

Despite being modern inside, and both solar-powered and eco-friendly, Le Relais des Vigiers still maintains its long-standing traditions. The architectural concept is based on traditional barns of the Dordogne region, and the building was constructed from locally sourced and sustainable materials. 

 

The Spa by Sothys is located on the ground floor of the old wine making building, in the heart of the Chateau des Vigiers estate. It is the ideal place to relax and be pampered. The highly trained, professional beauticians offer a large range of beauty, facial and body treatments.

 

The Spa is home to a hydrotherapy pool, indoor pool and two heated outdoor pools. There is also a sauna, a hammam and jacuzzi in the Spa by Sothys, while there is a range of treatments and massages for guests to enjoy.

Chateau des Vigiers is situated in the Dordogne region of France, in between the towns of Ligueux and Saussignac. The nearest major city is Bordeaux, which is around 50 miles to the west of the resort.

What is the nearest airport to Chateau des Vigiers? 
Thanks to its proximity to the city, Bordeaux Airport is the nearest to Chateau des Vigiers, and sits on the other side of the city of Bordeaux. The airport is one of the busiest in the country, and operates daily flights to the majority of European countries.
