This is not your normal value list of golf.
Instead, what we have done to create our GB&I Value list is to take the top 250 courses in Great Britain & Ireland, and then look into how cheap you can play those courses throughout the summer.
Our regular lists take no notice of green fees. We simply try to evaluate the courses. We take the view that it is not the fault of the course that somebody has put an arbitrary value on it. The course isn’t better or worse because of the green fee. In a Value list, by contrast, we want to reward top 100-level courses that are out-performing the market. We love the idea that there are courses in our lists that can be enjoyed by lots of golfers and not just the ones with the deepest pockets.
There are several regions where it is possible to enjoy a great golf trip without the green fees reaching unmanageable levels. They include Northumberland, the south-west and Cumbria. It is fair to say that you might have to work that little bit harder to get yourself in position to play these courses – but we reckon you will be glad you made the effort.
How did we come to our GB&I Value list?
To work out our GB&I Value list, we looked at only the top 250 courses in our Great Britain & Ireland list. We then researched what would be the cheapest summer green fee (not including national or county rates). The formula used to then sort the order of the list is GB&I ranking + Green Fee Price. The lowest total number is the No.1 on our list!
For the green fees, we are happy to count a midweek rate, and even one only available in the afternoon or what might be known as a twilight price.
Why are there only 228 courses on the list?
The following clubs either ask golfers to apply for green fee prices, don’t offer visitor tee times, are being redeveloped, or have yet to publish their summer 2026 prices. They are listed by their ranking position only:
