Argyll & Bute is one of the largest regions in Scotland, thanks to the number of islands that the region encompasses. The Isles of Jura and Islay are among them, along with many archipelagos on the western side of the country - including the Mull of Kintyre.

The region also includes some of the mainland as well, moving as far inland as the centre of the most famous loch in the world. The course that sits adjacent - a former host of the Scottish Open - is one of the best layouts in the region. Loch Lomond is one of several stunning venues in the region.

For those that fancy the long drive and ferry journeys across to those islands, there are the likes Machrihanish, Machrihanish Dunes, Shiskine, Ardfin and The Machrie. The latter offers up the perfect spot to stay during your time on the Isle of Islay, the perfect stay-and-play resort for the job.

Add in the likes of Dunaverty, The Carrick and Glencruitten - the latter being the home course of Robert MacIntyre - and you have an incredible golfing region, across a wide variety of landscapes.

How we compiled our Argyll & Bute list
We updated our Argyll & Bute list when we created our NCG Top 100s list of the best golf courses in Scotland. If one course in the region is above another in our Scotland list, then it will also be above it in our Argyll & Bute list.
