Want to play the best courses in the country but don't want to spend that much money? Our England Value list is the perfect places to start...

Our England Value lists only consider courses that are in our Top 100s shortlists. Whatever your stance on the green fees being charged, we can all agree that every course that features in this list is exceptionally good.

We take the position a course occupies in our latest England list, then add to it their least expensive Summer 2025 green fee. We are happy to count a midweek rate, and even one only available in the afternoon. We do not include twilight rates or shoulder season rates. It must be available to the golfing public. We are not interested in any kind of package deal or group discount. And the price must be a rack rate that is readily offered by the club, either on their website or on application.

Our regular lists take no notice of green fees. We simply try to evaluate the courses. We take the view that it is not the fault of the course that somebody has put an arbitrary value on it. The course isn’t better or worse because of the green fee. In a Value list, by contrast, we want to reward top 100-level courses that are out-performing the market. We love the idea that there are courses in our lists that can be enjoyed by lots of golfers and not just the ones with the deepest pockets.

There are several regions where it is possible to enjoy a great golf trip without the green fees reaching unmanageable levels. They include Northumberland, the south-west and Cumbria. It is fair to say that you might have to work that little bit harder to get yourself in position to play these courses – but we reckon you will be glad you made the effort.
