Fairmont La Hacienda | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts
Rankings
23rd
There are many golfing venues on the Costa del Sol, with one of the newest being the Fairmont La Hacienda, which only opened at the start of 2025. Two cracking and different golf courses, a marvellous golfing academy and sublime accommodation means that the Fairmont La Hacienda ticks every box.
The former Alcaceisa Links, which has now been rebranded as La Hacienda Links, is home to two fabulous 18-hole golf courses. The Links Course, designed by Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, takes you along the Mediterranean coastline, while Dave Thomas' Heathland Course offers up stunning views from above the resort, looking down to the sea and out to Gibraltar and North Africa.
When it comes to accommodation, being under the Fairmont brand gives you assurances of the quality. There are plenty of rooms and suites available in the main hotel, which overlooks the swimming pool, while a range of 50 villas are also available for those groups that would prefer a more private stay on the Costa del Sol.
Away from the course, La Hacienda Links also has its own Golf Academy, with a recently renovated 72-bay driving range, short game area and the opportunity to take tuition. There is also a newly-opened wellness centre, with saunas, steam rooms, a jacuzzi and a cold plunge. Massages and treatments are also available from the facility to aid your relaxation of an afternoon!

Fairmont La Hacienda Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts
Two Stunning Courses
Like many of the venues on the NCG Top 100s: European Resorts list, the Fairmont La Hacienda is the home to two golf courses. Formerly known as Alcadeisa Links, and now known as La Hacienda Links, the venues is home to the Links Course and the Heathland Course, both of which have Ryder Cup stars behind their histories...
Links Course
The Links Course opened back in 1992 at what was Alcadeisa Links. Clive Clark - who recently designed Dumbarnie Links - and the great Peter Alliss, eight-times a Ryder Cup star and the 'Voice of Golf', were the two men behind the original design of the Links Course.
It is one of just a handful of links-style golf courses on the Mediterranean coastline, and in 2021, American architect Kurtis Bowman was brought in to renovate the layout. That work involved the remodelling of all tees, greens complexes and bunkers along with the redesign of a series of holes – in the process, creating one of the largest putting greens in Spain.
It is a challenging course with wide fairways, fast, double greens, large, strategically located bunkers and gentle slopes that descend towards the sea, running along almost two kilometres of coastline, with many holes bordering the beach. From the tips, this par 72 layout runs to more than 6,400 yards, and with the danger of the Mediterranean Sea for the majority of the time as well...
Heathland Course
Another Ryder Cupper, in Dave Thomas, designed the Heathland Course at La Hacienda Links. Thomas, who designed all three layouts at The Belfry as part of his 100+ golf course portfolio around the world, wound the Heathland Course through the Andalusian hills above the resort.
It’s the perfect complement to the challenging Links course, winding through varied terrain. There are holes which are in a valley with lakes and narrow fairways while a number of plateaus gift exceptional views over the surrounding landscape and sea.
The Heathland Course is easily the longer of the two layouts at the Spanish resort, with the back tees taking the course past the 7,000-yard mark.

La Hacienda Links Golf Academy
Along with the two amazing golf courses, La Hacienda Links is also home to its own fantastic Golf Academy.
The recently renovated driving range has more than 70 bays to hit from, with half of those being covered to allow for practice despite inclement weather. Target greens, bunkers and even a natural grass teeing area add to the joys of the range.
The Golf Academy at La Hacienda Links also has a wonderful short game area, with two chipping area, practice bunkers and a pair of practice putting greens to allow players to hone their short game skills.
Lessons and tuition are also on offers for member and guests of the hotel. There are coaching packages for both adults and juniors, with the Golf Academy at La Hacienda working with the 'Stack and Tilt Methodology', with the aim of maximising consistency in every shot.
A Range of Accommodation
As you would expect, a resort of La Hacienda's size carrying the Fairmont brand as part of its name means that luxury is afforded to all guests at the resort.
The large hotel, which sits at the centre of the property, draped around two sides of the main swimming pool, is host to a wide range of rooms and suites. There are your typical hotel rooms, but there are also two- and three-bedroom suites, some of which have their own private plunge pools.
Along with the hotel, the Fairmont La Hacienda also has a range of almost 50 private villas, which stretch to five-bedrooms. Tee villas sit in the hills, overlooking the hotel and the coastline, with the rugged twin-peaks of Gibraltar in the distance.
The La Hacienda Wellness Centre
If relaxation is what you're looking for, especially after a tough day out on the golf course, then the Fairmont La Hacienda has you covered in that respect as well!
The wellness centre at the resort is fully-equipped. There is a thermal circuit with saunas, a steam room, Turkish bath and cold plunge pool, plus a hydrotherapy circuit with indoor/outdoor pools, jacuzzi, cold plunge, snow fountain and volcano pool.
Treatments include Rasul mud rituals and hammam scrubs, along with deep tissue and sports massages for the golfers that might require them. There are also Bastien Gonzalez mani/pedi treatments, a yoga studio and a well-equipped gym.
