Linna

Linna | NCG Top 100s

Linna was designed by Tim Lobb when he was working for European Golf Design, but he had a little help from one of the firm’s future employees. The club and European Golf Design ran a competition in a golf magazine for a reader to design the 15th hole at this new Finnish course. There were around 1,000 applications from around the world with the entries coming from Europe to New Zealand and Australia to the United States.

The winner was South African course architecture student Dave Simpson and his design was used in 2004 without any alterations to it. European Golf Design then hired him as a course architect the following spring.

Think of Woburn Marquess’ and you have a fair idea of what to expect at Finland’s No.2-ranked course.

Linna was opened in August 2005 and was instantly regarded as one of the top courses in Scandinavia. It enjoys a classic Scandinavian landscape of tall pines, still water and rolling terrain, with just enough nuance to get into our Continental Top 100.

Think of Woburn's Marquess and you have a fair idea of what to expect at Finland’s No.2-ranked course. A strong test, it has held the Finnish Open, European Amateur Championships 2010, and the European Tour Properties Senior Classic on the European Seniors Tour.
