Sheen Falls Lodge has a little bit of everything to suit the entire group, with incredible five-star accommodation in the form of rooms, suites and standalone cottages. Starting with the golf, and the Ring of Kerry Golf Club which is around five miles from Sheen Falls Lodge – though there are complimentary transfers available from the lodge to the club. The golf course, designed by Eddie Hackett and Ron Kirby, is a parkland gem, winding its way through the trees, and several water hazards, while providing glorious views of Kenmare Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. A driving range, short game area and the ability to take lessons adds to the quality of the club.

Away from the golf, there is plenty to do at Sheen Falls Lodge, with a wide range of activities both on site and on trips out. Archery and axe throwing are among the things to do while still at the resort, while horse riding and fishing can take you further afield. For those looking to relax, the Easnna Wellness & Spa is the perfect spot, with a range of treatments and massages available, while guests can also just enjoy the pool, sauna and steam room as well.

At the end of the evening, when it is time for bed, Sheen Falls Lodge has plenty to choose from in terms of its accommodation. Unlike most venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Resorts list, Sheen Falls Lodge does not house its own golf course. Instead, the resort is linked with the Ring of Kerry Golf Club, which sits around five miles from the venue. The course, which was designed by Eddie Hackett and Ron Kirby, is now owned by Sheen Falls Lodge, with complimentary transfers from the lodge and accommodation to and from the golf course for those staying and playing.

The layout, which was Hackett’s last design, opened in the early part of the 21st Century, and pushes to more than 6,800 yards from the tips. Views of the Atlantic Ocean and Kenmare Bay are there for all to see throughout the course, particularly through the back nine.

It begins with a testing par 4, one where the tee shot is played over a water hazard to find the fairway – not an easy start with your opening shot of the day. Water also comes into play down the left side of the 4th, the first of the par 5s at the Ring of Kerry. The 6th is a cracking medium-length par 4, with water right and trees left off the tee. Find the fairway, and you’ve got a good chance at making birdie. The same hazard on 6 also comes into play to the right of the short 7th. Playing between 130 and 175 yards depending on the tees, anything leaked out to the right of the green will be wet.

9 is drivable for the longer hitters, but again, with water to the right of the putting surface, is it worth the risk? A run of tricky holes takes you down towards the coastline of the country through the back nine, before you make your way back inland to the clubhouse on the final stretch, with the course finishing with a par 3. Played over water, this 175-yard challenge is perhaps not what you’re looking for with your final approach shot of the day...

There is an extensive range of accommodation to suit all needs at Sheen Falls Lodge, with the hotel playing host to more than 70 rooms and suites, along with a quintet of cottages for those looking for a more private stay.

Starting with the hotel, there are 60 rooms and 12 suites available. The Classic Rooms, although the standard offering, are elegantly designed and decked out in five-star luxury. The hotel then also has a range of Deluxe Rooms, Superior Rooms and Estate Rooms as well.

There are 12 suites in total, with several Signature Suites and the Suite Falls View, the latter overlooking the Sheen waterfall. The Oscars Suite has French doors and a private patio, while the Falls Master Suite is the best of the best, at more than 120 square metres.

Away from the hotel, there are five standalone offerings. Marianne’s Cottage has two bedrooms, sleeping four people, with en-suites in both, and a gorgeous private terrace. The Garden Cottage sits amongst the trees, while Little Hat has a beautiful, thatched roof. The venue also plays host to a pair of Bay Villas, which both sleep eight, and can be combined for larger groups of up to 16.

The Easanna Wellness & Spa is the relaxation retreat at Sheen Falls Lodge. An award-winning facility, the Easanna Wellness & Spa has everything a guest could possibly want from a spa, with a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi as part of the facility.

There is an extensive range of treatments, massages and rituals, with the Easanna using products from ELEMIS, Seabody and Ground. Holistic body treatments, facial treatments and full body massages are all available, from a team of qualified therapists.

For those that like to stay active, golf is not the only pastime that guests can enjoy during their stay at Sheen Falls Lodge. The likes of axe throwing, archery and clay pigeon shooting are all available on site, along with horse riding and fishing that take you into the countryside.
