There is a combination of splendid terrain and architecture which provides a test without taking liberties with the often all too fragile ego. The handful of grand holes, especially the All-Wales 12th & 16th, will handsomely repay the effort of visiting Aberdovey.

My first time at this traditional out and back links. Aberdovey has very memorable opening holes.

An 'out and back' links course with superb greens complexes. This beautifully conditioned and presented course is high quality and a joy to play.

Aberdovey has all the qualities of a terrific links course. The short par 4 16th is a real character hole.

For such a highly rated course, I felt somewhat underwhelmed. The opening three holes brought a sense of anticipation but from there till the 11th they were somewhat bland. The back 9 did improve and 16 is a fantastic short strategic par 4. However, I did expect better for a course that generally comfortably sits within the UK top 100.
