Tough, almost brutal in parts, but a great course with some fantastic holes.

Set between the twin beauties of seaside and hillside scenery, the course is consistently good throughout and superbly presented. The ongoing major works programme is making this fabulous course even better.

Vastly improved with some gorse removal - always a pleasure to play.

A championship course that has been worked on in recent times.

Consistency is the strength of Conwy as there are really not bad holes and it is a true links course, however, maybe without some of the charm of other Welsh classics. The only criticism is the amount of gorse on a couple of holes is overpowering, although the course have recently taking some areas back to a more natural look by removing some areas and replacing with sandy waste.

I have played Conwy about 30 times over the last 15 years with my golfing buddies and still blown away by the sea views from the tees on holes 7,8, and 10. However, last month's visit will be the last for a while. Sadly its condition has deteriorated significantly over the last 5 years. A number of the tees are uneven and require attention. In previous years it was noticeable how defined many fairways were by longer grass or gorse. Generally it is no longer the case now. Several fairways were quite bare and a couple on the front 9 are covered in some form of moss, which is not grass. The greens are often slow, which wasn't a problem given it was October. However, it was noticeable that the majority of them are also now infected similar to the fairways. Large patches of a moss type growth and some sort of fern were noticeable to the point that it affected putting. Several bunkers had weeds growing in the sand of the bunker face so it is obviously they are not being fully maintained. It is difficult to understand as they had been raked in the middle. A few areas have now been turned over in an attempt to create sand scrapes. Noticeably on holes 3 and 7. However they are now full of weeds and nettles, look so unkempt and are not maintained. If this was the intention then they would be better as just cut grass.Large areas of gorse have been removed over areas of the course and are now looking worse as they are bare but starting to grow back. On the positive the driving range is very good and the clubhouse staff were pleasant and our light bites were good. Such a shame to see the course decline and looking forward to next year it is very difficult to see how it can justify a peak season rate approaching £150. Based on our experience, it is now £50 course and in decline. Such a shame and made more evident as our group had done our usual and played Aberdovey and Royal St. Davids on our way up. Both courses were difficult to criticise as fairways and greens were in excellent condition and a significant step up from Conwy.
