The Strand has arguably the best starting hole in golf and the front 9 is filled with amazing golf holes. It is similar to the towering dunes of Carne. It will be interesting to see the changes on 13th & 14th and how they enhance the rather less dramatic back 9.

The Strand course divides opinion but it is certainly popular amongst touring professionals as the Irish Open will soon return. It has lots of X factor from the tees, especially the front 9 which are generally regarded as high calibre links holes. Work will soon start on upgrading the back nine which will improve things still further.

Portstewart is exceptionally well presented – from the pristine 1st tee to the consistently smooth greens.

A mixed bag of brilliant and banal.
