A brutally excellent but nevertheless fair links course, played over perfect linksland. You will require your A-game!

Not many courses in England are superior to Saunton East and that is high praise indeed. I admire the restraint required to keep most of the tees on lower ground (or level with the green) as hill climbing for a set-piece view can become tiresome. The variety of greens is unusually good for a links.

Saunton is a challenging and spectacular links, which tests the full range of shotmaking. Several changes have been made in recent times both to the design and the condition of the course.

The opening and closing runs of holes are really strong.

Saunton East is an unrelenting challenge where even the short holes like the 120-yard fifth hole will severely punish an errant tee shot, and with springy links turf, fast and true greens, what is not to like.

Everything is laid out in front of you on the East. It's a very visible course with only a small number of blind or partially sighted holes
